The first weekend of August, enjoy the Sweet Pea Festival, and year-round visit the Museum of the Rockies on the MSU cam- pus, and pretend you're visiting Jurassic Park. There's no end of things to see and do in Gallatin County. AUTHOR'S NOTE: People interested in Montana history know that Lewis and Clark didn't name anything Madison, Jefferson, or Gallatin. Those names were applied by more politically minded folk back in Washington, DC. That said, I find it fascinating that across the country, there are 26 US counties named for President Thomas Jefferson. Twenty counties take their name from James Madison, Jefferson's Secretary of State. Only three honor Albert Gallatin, the man who kept the financial records as Jefferson's (and then Madison's) Secretary of the Treasury. (The other two are in Illi- nois and Kentucky.)
