Why Montana? The easy answer is
because Montana is home, and even
though I have lived in three other states
and one foreign country, Montana will
always be home. Treating patients here
has been a gift. There is a certain type
of person who thrives in our state—
Montanans are unique in their tolerance
for isolation and self-reliance. Being born
and raised in Montana allows me an "in"
because I understand the humor, the Montana
culture, and the traditions.
Moving back to Montana almost six years ago
made me realize that medicine in Montana is
different. Patients are more active in their healthcare
and rely on their primary care provider for guidance
and treatment. I have been humbled by the trust
of my patients, the welcoming community, and
the connections I have made.

During my medical training, I found myself
confronted with many diffi cult questions. What
fi eld did I want to pursue? What type of medical
work was right for me? But one question had an
obvious answer: Where did I want to practice?
Growing up in Big Timber, I often accompanied my father,
a physician, to house calls in our community. It was a powerful
experience for me, and I knew that when I was older, I would
serve as a doctor in the state where I was raised.
Montana is a special place. Despite how far away people
may live, there is always sense of community and inclusion
unlike anywhere else in the nation. I am thrilled to live in
Montana again and to provide medical care to the people
of my home state.
Growing up in Big Timber, I often accompanied my father,
We care for this community because
we are a part of it—just like you.
