Just 75 miles southwest of Glendive along the scenic Yellowstone River, Miles City remains true to its Western heritage. Wide-open
spaces and jutting badlands entice from every direction, and the town itself—a horse trading and livestock hot spot—always boasts
a full calendar of events.
The Miles City Bucking Horse Sale is famous far and wide, transforming the community into the rodeo capitol of the world annually
on the third weekend in May. Plus, there's the CowTown Cook Off in June, the Independence Day Celebration on July 4th, the
Eastern Montana Fair in August, the Bluegrass Festival in September and many other year-round cultural events and activities.
In the 1890s, Miles City served as the end of the trail for many longhorn cattle drives from Texas. The Miles City Saddlery was a
place for ranchers and cattlemen to buy saddles and helped make this small cow town famous. Today, the original makers of the
Coggshall Saddle sell custom Western wear and proudly display their historic saddles.
Housed in the 1910 cement bunker that produced Miles City's drinking water for more than 60 years, the WaterWorks Art Museum
is an amazing piece of art unto itself. The historic setting offers a contemporary urban feel and exhibits from some of the country's
prominent artists.
