For 5.5 years a black and white dog named Shep waited at the train station for his (deceased) master to return. As word of his vigil spread, in 1938 he was featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not and received fan mail. Eventually he grew old and was hit by a train and died, mourned by hundreds. 50 years later Bob Scriver, noted bronze sculptor, made a larger- than-life-sized statue that rests in the center of town, known as Shepherd's Court. Shep's collar and dish are stored in the Mu- seum of the Upper Missouri. His owner remains a mystery. KALISPELL Dreamcatcher Lodge Bed & Breakfast offers you a peaceful escape from the world.
