Roaming Eastern Montana:
Shadows on the plains by David Baumstark Smith Lake by KC Glastetter
E
astern Montana means fantastic badlands, historic monuments, and dinosaur fossils. Here ante- lope, pheasant, grouse, prairie chickens, prairie elk, and wild turkeys roam. Here oil and gas development has radically altered some towns. But mostly eastern Montana is celebrated for its colorful people and towns: Broadus, Colstrip, Ekalaka, Fort Peck, Glasgow, Glendive, Hardin, Jordan, Malta, Miles City, Plentywood, Poplar, Scobey, Wibaux, and Wolf Point. With this essay we honor the residents and vast landscape of eastern Montana.
