W
elcome to summer in Montana!
is issue brings you a great collection
of features, stories, and suggestions,
all of which we hope will enhance your Montana
experience whether you live here, want to live here,
or are just stopping by for a visit. ank you for
joining us.
With this issue we begin a new relationship
with the National Forest Foundation (NFF), based
in Missoula. In the spirit of "giving back," we are
now working with them to plant one tree for every
purchase by our advertisers, or in our Distinctly
Montana Gift Shop.
Trees may stand alone, but forests do not; and
as we all are reminded, forest life is essential to all
life, whether as a biological "sponge" to sap carbon
from the air, or as resplendent beauty to nurture
one's spirit. We were immediately drawn to trees
and tree life, both because forests are iconic to
Montana, and because of their steady devasta-
tion, primarily by the pine bark beetle and seasonal
wildfires. Distinctly Montana wants to do its part
to help NFF in its goal to sustain and restore our
forests, and to remind our readers of the importance
of forest life in our ecosystem. e National Forest
Foundation (www.nationalforests.org), after much
research, pursues these goals in the most cost-effec-
tive and productive manner.
Enjoy Montana this summer, and consider your
own role in forest health. If you are so inclined,
consider joining NFF and plant a tree yourself.
"Trees for Us" is for you, too.
