f there is one thing most of us can
agree upon here in Montana, it's that
our very glorious, but seemingly in-
terminable winters do make us ache for
spring. Yes, we love snowshoeing, but now long
for the crunch of gravel beneath our hiking boots.
We adore the views of snow-capped peaks, but are
ready to scratch that visual itch by summiting rather
than seeing. We appreciate the snapping heat of our
hearth fire, but are more-than-ready to bask in mead-
ows of sunlit wildflowers. It is so, as Twain suggests,
that we await spring with eager, even anxious anticipa-
tion. No, you are not dreaming…the day's light is hold-
ing longer…the daffodils will be here soon.
So, how do we get from winter to spring? Well, it's a
mental process as well as one of planetary movement
and shifts on the earth's axis. Distinctly Montana is ready
to both assuage and juice your spring fever. In this issue,
travel with us to the Rocky Mountain Front (yes, this is
the year you surely will go!). Untangle your mental
tackle with our fly-fishing tips for spring creeks. Get
geared to bike Helena's fabulous trail system. Chef
Jim will teach you how to prepare the BEST spring
asparagus, and we'll learn what to expect from
Montana's water supply in 2044. There's more, a
lot more, but we always like to hold back a few surprises.
And, this seems like a good place to remind you to
find more of the Montana content you love each and
every day at
distinctlymontana.com…and on our DistinCtly
MOntana faCebOOk page (Have you "liked" us?). Our
MOnthly newsletter is on our Web site, with a simple
signup. And, if you miss any of our print issues, there
is a complete
Digital issue arChive on our Web site.
All yours for the
taking.
So, enough al-
ready…let's get with it
—- Spring 2014.
