Raptors
The Greek God Zeus chose the noble and majestic Golden eagle as his
personal messenger and companion. The bird received a place among the
stars as the constellation Aquila; its consort was Lyra, the heavenly vulture.

Raising the $16,000 needed for the project
was difficult. Over time many groups contributed to the total cost. Professional mural
painter Niki Glen of Tucson, Arizona, served
as the original project director; later, artists
Delores Dinsmore and Anne Appleby served
as co-directors. Marilyn Sternberg was codesigner. Anne Appleby worked with eight
teenagers teaching them research skills and drawing and painting through
hands-on experience during the planning and painting of the mural. It was a
grassroots project in every sense.
