Bozeman writer John Clayton's Wonderlandscape first ap-
peared in 2017 and was honored at the Montana Book
Award; this June, Pegasus reissues it in paperback with a
new afterword on the cultural footprint of the Yellowstone
television series. The book is not a park history in any
conventional sense. Clayton tells the story of Yellowstone
through ten figures who reshaped what Americans wanted
the place to mean, from Thomas Moran and Ansel Adams
to the Craighead brothers and Yogi Bear. The argument is
that Yellowstone has always been a mirror as much as a land-
scape, and the new afterword extends that argument into
the streaming era.
