D I S T I N C T LY M O N TA N A M A G A Z I N E • S P R I N G 2 0 2 3 10 T he winter of 2022-23 was especially long and cold in Montana, with some near-re- cord-breaking subzero temperatures that stretched on for what felt like months. Cars would not start. Diesel engines gelled up and became immobile. Going out- side in forty-below-zero weather was a good way to remind yourself that humans are fragile, life is short, and so you best focus on whatever is most important to you! Now, mercifully, the temperature is finally rising. The diesel engines aren't gelling over, cars are turning over on the first crank (some cars, anyway), and spring is finally in the air. For us, of course, spring means we get to produce and deliver another issue of Distinctly Montana. Hooray—we've survived another season as well! This issue brings you on a journey that spans Montana's lakes and waterways, from ancient to present; lakes to rivers, hot springs, and everything in between. This issue also kicks off our 2023 Best of Montana Con- test! Last year was our contest, and it was a huge success. Be sure to visit our website and nominate your favorite Montana businesses. You can get to the contest direct- ly at www.distinctlymontana.com/bom2023, or you can scan the QR code below with your phone camera, and it will open right up. You can nominate your favorite businesses once per day, and every time you do, you'll be entered into our sweepstakes to win $500 in cash. It's a great way to both thank your favorite businesses and take a stab at the chance to put an extra $500 in your pocket. The odds of winning are excellent, and the more businesses you nominate, the better your odds become. There will be a second $500 drawing at the end of the voting phase, so you get two shots at winning $500. Thank you for being a faithful reader—we are grateful for your support. Please accept our entire team's best wishes and enjoy the spring weather!
