O
ne of the most influential cars of the 20th
Century, the FORD MODEL T capitalized on
innovative production line assembly to become
the first affordable car for many Americans,
with 15 millon cars sold between 1908–1927.
While Montana had a whopping 50 miles of
paved highways in 1928, cars like the
Model T had already profoundly changed
rural and city life for most Montanans.

istorically, agriculture has always been Montana's foremost
economic engine from jobs to exports. Because of
the Great Depression and World War II, only 30% of
working farms used gas powered equipment into
the 1940s, while the rest still relied on horses to
work in the fields. Once trucks and tractors were
available, farm productivity took off. Farmers
could manage larger crops, and the machines
could work longer hours as well as endure
adverse conditions better than animals. Soon,
trucks like the trusty 1949 INTERNATIONAL
became the farmer's best friend.
