5 S know! ING ld FIVE yo u TH sho u Spring clean your attitude By Corinne Garcia 1 2 3 4 S P R I N G | 2 013 24 Wean the Screen It's easy to hole up and become a Netflix junky in the winter months, when it's just too cold to come out of hibernation. But forget spring-cleaning, and try spring weaning. Turn off the tele, walk outside—Yes, that's sunlight—and visit a friend, go for an evening stroll, attend more events, or hang out in a coffee shop with a good magazine. It's time to get your game on again and get prepped for the long summer nights to come. Indulge in a Soul Food Detox Montana's long, cold winters can make you feel as if you need to add another layer of blubber just to make it through. But spring is the perfect time to shed the meatloaf, mashers, and comfort food binges of winter. Instead, delve into lighter meals to prepare for the farmers' market and grilling season fare that comes with summer. Detox diet, if you will, or simply lighten the load. Try a week of meat-free dining, or go on a weeklong fruits and vegetables-only diet. If you don't detox, you won't get to enjoy the fun of a summer re-tox! Put the 'ME' into Meditation You don't have to sit in a corner "om-m-ming" to a shrine in order to meditate; meditation and mindfulness comes in all shapes and sizes. What activities truly help you relax and offer clarity? Maybe it's blasting music and dancing around the room, going for a quiet walk by running water, sipping a glass of wine in the sun, or trying a weekly yoga class. Personalize your meditation and make sure to take the time to do it regularly, no matter what. Pour the Whine Having one of those days? There's nothing better than letting it all pour out, and instead of torturing a friend with your problems, try pouring it out on paper. Partner driving you crazy? Make a list of the top 10 things you hate about him. Work sucks? Write down everything that bugs you about that place, down to the nasty way your boss smells. Most likely, the list will end up making you laugh, and you'll lighten your load. Then, tear it up into little pieces and throw it away. D I S T I N C T LY M O N TA N A Gal
