His patient-centered approach inspires him to nd the right treatment plan to meet every individual's unique needs. What inspired you to focus on orthopedics over any other specialty? I was drawn to orthopedics because improvement in patients can be seen almost immediately. It's an amazing feeling to meet a patient in the emergency room who is injured and broken, and then be able to x them. Likewise, it is extremely gratifying to return pain-free function to patients who have been suffering from debilitating arthritis for many years by replacing their worn-out joints. How do your surgical techniques help patients recover as quickly as possible after surgery? There are two unique procedures I use for arthritis of the knee and for carpal tunnel syndrome that help my patients recover more quickly than using traditional surgical approaches. For total knee replacements, I utilize TruMatch ™ technology, which eliminates the need for intramedullary rod placement. This results in much less pain, blood loss, and a quicker recovery for patients undergoing total knee replacements—most of my patients go home within 24 hours after this surgery. For carpal tunnel release, I perform minimally invasive surgery utilizing an endoscopic technique that allows for a small, single incision in the wrist. Patients recover much quicker from carpal tunnel release surgery using this technique, allowing them to return to work sooner. What are some of the ways you help patients cope with the stress of having surgery? Dealing with the stress of having surgery can be very dif cult, and I tell all my patients it's natural for them to feel a little anxious. I remind them that even though it's the rst time they are undergoing this procedure, it is not the rst time I am performing it, and they are in good hands! I also enjoy connecting personally with my patients and try to inject a little humor into the situation. How do you enjoy spending your time outside of work? I enjoy the great outdoors and spending time with my family. I also have a passion for fast cars, and whenever time permits, I enjoy exploring the great state of Montana in mine! A tradition of advanced care. Learn more at Bene s.org
