P
atrick Whalen, 33, had gone into
the Cut Bank Creek drainage and
on november 3, 2000, was never seen
again. Rangers found his unauthorized
camp and personal items at Atlantic Creek
in May, 2001.
Another mysterious disappearance oc-
curred in 2003. There is still no sign of a
Michigan man whose rig was found abandoned.
Larry Kimball, 40, was described as tall and
slender, with brown hair, brown eyes and
wearing glasses.
Five people gone missing are known or be-
lieved to have drowned in the park, though
their bodies were never found. Also, two hik-
ers fell and their bodies have not been found,
though bone fragments were discovered.
T
here are dozens of other
deadly incidents in Glacier
National Park, lower in num-
ber, but just as devastating
as the occurrences in this
article. Exposure, falling
trees, intoxication, and fire,
as well as a longer list of
unknowns that total 297
deaths in all.
Glacier National Park is
a treasure to be cherished
and enjoyed, but also a
deadly force for those
who are unknowing,
reckless, or inattentive.
